Ronald L. Jacobs, Ph.D

Ronald L. Jacobs, Ph.DRonald L. Jacobs, Ph.D. is professor of human resource development, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and principal of RL Jacobs & Associates, a global consulting firm. Ron has taught a wide range of graduate-level courses on HRD, including research, strategic HRD, work analysis, and consulting in organizations. Ron has authored over 100 journal articles and book chapters, and has authored or edited six books that address a range of topics in human resource and workforce development. Ron is emeritus professor of workforce development and education at The Ohio State University.

Jie Ke, Ph.D

Jie Ke, Ph.DDr. Jie Ke ( obtained her Ph.D. in Human Resource Development (HRD) from Texas A&M University and MBA from EDHEC in France. She is an assistant professor of HRD in the College of Education and Human Development at Jackson State University. Her research interests include Chinese Human Resource Development/Management, Evaluation and Assessment, Women Leadership Development, Motivations and Needs of Adult Undergraduates, and Effectiveness of eLearning. Serving as the Managing Editor of the Journal of Chinese Human Resource Management and China SIG co-chair of Academy of Human Resource Development (AHRD), her publications appeared in various academic journals of HRM/HRD. She is also HRD SIG chair for American Association for Adult and Continuing Education (AAACE) and AAACE proposal review chair. Dr. Ke is the Principle Investigator of two grants in improving adult learning and has/has been leading/participating in four grant projects (three from NSF on STEM education; one from Kellogg on teacher education).


» A China SIG Lecture: Corporate University and Corporate E-learning in China

China SIG

Dr. Feng Wu, an associate professor from Peking University, presented a seminar about corporate universities and corporate e-learning practice in China at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) at the noon of April 28, 2015. The seminar was sponsored by the China SIG of AHRD in partnership with the Community of HRD Scholars in the Department of Educational Policy, Organization, and Leadership at the College of Education, UIUC. It targeted scholars and practitioners who have interests in understanding Chinese HRD practice, studying corporate universities, or researching elearning practice in business-settings. For those who are interested in international HRD phenomena, especially HRD in China, please refer to the presentation video link hosted by the College of Education at UIUC on YouTube.

In the major part of the lecture, Dr. Wu presented findings from his research team’s investigation on corporate universities in China. The following questions were discussed:

  1. Why have there been so many corporate universities established in china?
  2. What are some innovation strategies for learning in corporate universities in
  3. How should we evaluate corporate universities in China?

Dr. Wu also planned to talk about corporate e-learning practices in China. Due to the time limit, he briefly introduced content around the following questions on e-learning:

  1. What is the difference between e-learning in traditional universities and that in
    corporate universities in China?
  2. What is the status quo of corporate e-learning in China?
  3. How have massive online open courses (MOOC) been developed in corporations
    in China?

The presenter Dr. Feng Wu is currently a visiting scholar in the Division of HRD, Department of Educational Policy, Organization, and Leadership, College of Education, UIUC. He is an associate professor in Graduate School of Education in Peking University, China. He is also the director of Business-Education Research Center at Peking University and the chairman of Human Resource Education Committee of the Chinese Association of Adult Education. He has a Ph.D. in economics form Peking University. His main research fields include HRD and educational technology. He ha
published six books and fifty journal articles and conducted many research projects including one funded by China National Social Science Foundation. He can be reached at

The on-site facilitator for this lecture was Xiaoping Tong, a third-year PhD student in HRD and a graduate teaching assistant in the College of Education at UIUC. She also serves as the Communication Officer for the China SIG.
