|AHRD 2043—Positioning the Academy for its 50th Anniversary|
AHRD 2043—Will you help us get there? 2018 marked the Academy of Human Resource Development’s 25th anniversary—a milestone that was commemorated by celebrations and a thinktank during the conference to determine our vision for the future. What do we need to ensure that we continue to fulfil our mission of Leading Human Resource Development through Research for the next 25 years and beyond? The obvious answer is we need YOU—to continue contributing rich scholarship and model practice to our exciting field. We also need your help to put AHRD in a more stable position for the long term.
AHRD is a nonprofit organization and our health and vitality depends not only on our creative scholarship and reflective practice, but also on the health of this organization. To ensure that we continue to thrive for the next 25+ years, AHRD needs to develop an endowment to protect its ability to operate and serve its members so that we are not almost solely dependent on the conference as a source of income as we are today.
AHRD had modest beginnings in 1993 and little money. At one point in our early history, a founding member loaned AHRD money so we could continue operating. Although AHRD is a long way from that destitute moment in our first years of operation, our reality is that it costs money to support our members with international conferences, awards, webinars, program excellence network, special interest groups, website, administration, and publications.
AHRD exists to provide a scholarly community to academics and reflective practitioners who are committed to the systematic study of human resource development theories, processes, and practices, and the application of HRD research findings. AHRD also provides a vital network for practitioners, faculty, and students to connect across multiple disciplines from across the globe.
AHRD is making impact in the professional lives of its members with recognized high quality journals, collaborative opportunities, and recognition of our members’ contributions to the field.
Here is how you can help. AHRD needs your financial support. To be frank, AHRD’s budget has been operating with an approximate $20,000 shortfall for the past few years, and this is not a sustainable financial picture. As President-Elect, I am committed to leading a fund raising initiative to help bridge this shortfall. I am proud to donate to AHRD personally and ask each of you to donate what you can in honor of our 25th anniversary and next 25+ years. Would you donate $25, $250, $2500, or $25,000 as your budget allows to help us move AHRD into a more stable financial position? My long term dream is to one day have an endowed fund that fully covers AHRD’s operational expenses.
AHRD is a 501c3 tax exempt organization (tax id #74-2675977). Your contribution is tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. No goods or services were provided in exchange for your generous financial donation. Please consult your tax advisor to determine the deductibility of your contribution.
AHRD 2043—join me in ensuring that the Academy of Human Resource Development is thriving on our 50th anniversary!
