The vision of AHRD is "Leading Human Resource Development Through Research." On behalf of the professional association that leads research for the HRD discipline and profession, I want to invite you to embrace this vision's call by submitting your scholarly work to the 2010 AHRD International Research Conference in The Americas. Historically, our international research conference has been the test-bed for innovative thought and creativity regarding the HRD discipline--and I highly anticipate that the 2010 Conference will yield similar results. Our 2010 Program Committee, led by Dr. Julia Storberg-Walker, is planning an exciting conference program--however, her work highly depends upon your manuscript submissions. Thank you for submitting your work in preparation for the 2010 AHRD International Conference.

Welcome Message from the Program Chair

With your submissions, we will be creating an exciting and meaningful program for the 2010 AHRD International Research Conference in the Americas. Change is in the air, and your Program Committee is working hard to facilitate the learning and publishing opportunities this research conference provides.

In March, 2009, AHRD members responded to an online survey and provided feedback about the conference and the proceedings. An Executive Summary has been produced from the analysis of the survey.

The analysis of your feedback suggests that you want your academic conference to offer more rigorous learning opportunities, greater participant interaction, and a greater sense of our scholar/practitioner community. In addition, you want the proceedings to be more widely accessible and searchable.

As an all-volunteer organization, we face resource constraints in terms of the human-power we can deploy in putting on the conference. However, within that constraint, we hope you already see changes and enhancements, and more will be coming. For example, a new volunteer position (Associate Program Chair) was created for the purpose of enhancing the learning and interactivity at the conference. Another example is this "Conference Central” website. These pages are designed to provide in-depth information, challenge you to produce cutting-edge research or practice manuscripts, and introduce you to the vital leaders of the scholarly foundation of the conference—your Track Chair Editors. Finally, the Innovative Session (IS) category is being re-crafted to ensure alignment to the strategic learning needs of the Academy. This year, IS proposals will be reviewed and processed through the VP of Research (Dr. Laura Bierema). The intent is to generate rigorous learning opportunities for our diverse membership—from novice, to mid-career, to the ‘old timers’ who are the founding members of our Academy. We hope that you will find these opportunities, combined with the professional development and pre-conference sessions, to be attractive, compelling, and exciting opportunities for your continued learning and research.

We will be working to implement other enhancements to the program and proceedings over the next several months. For now, enjoy these pages and return occasionally to see updates. Let us know if you have questions about any of the information here, and we look forward to seeing you in Knoxville in February, 2010!

Submission Tracks

Submissions closed. The following information is for reference only.

Like last year, topic tracks are being used for the manuscript submission and review processes. Each track has a Track Chair Editor (TCE) who is a recognized thought leader and/or researcher in the content area. TCEs have been appointed by virtue of their research and publication contributions, or based on a competitive application and review process. More detailed information about these important leaders is provided in the links below.

The TCE will be the point of contact for questions during the review process. Questions about the submission process should be directed to Proceedings Editor Carroll Graham or Associate Proceedings Editor Khalil Dirani; their contact information is provided at the end of this page.

Authors submit research and theory full papers, abstracts, or research roundtable manuscripts to the track that most closely is aligned with the content and/or purpose of the paper. In cases where a paper could be appropriate for more than one track, authors should use their best judgment to determine the most appropriate track. Authors submit scholar/practitioner full papers, abstracts, or research roundtables to the scholar/practitioner stream, regardless of the content or purpose of the paper. All manuscripts undergo a blind-review process after submission.

    This is a stream, not a track. If you are submitting a scholar-practitioner manuscript, then you should submit it to this stream. Manuscripts submitted to this stream will be reviewed by scholar/practitioners using review criteria specifically created to evaluate the manuscript’s contribution towards practice rather than towards theory. After the review, the manuscripts will be integrated into the content Tracks as appropriate.

Manuscript Formatting Requirements

Note: The Academy, as a scholarly professional organization, adheres to the APA style guide for its conference and journal publications. It is important for authors and reviewers to continue to develop expertise in writing and formatting using APA style and formatting guidelines.

Because the new 6th edition of the APA manual will be published in July, 2009, we are not providing sample manuscripts at this time. As soon as the new manual is available, properly formatted sample submissions will be created and uploaded. If you submit prior to July 31st, follow the 5th edition guidelines. During the revision process, you will be expected to update your manuscript to comply with the new 6th edition requirements. For more information and sample manuscripts.
