Welcome!

As we reach our 15th UFHRD conference, it is apposite and timely for the field to take stock and reflect upon our history, the lessons we have learned and how we are positioned to meet contemporary challenges in an increasingly complex world. Through looking back, we capture the past and move forward together as a stronger, more cohesive discipline built upon secure sustainable foundations. The conference theme reflects the host location of Edinburgh, a city which seamlessly fusions the atmospheric and historic cobbled streets of the Old Town with the breath-taking modern architecture of the New Town – a city steeped in both tradition and modernity. The aim of this Conference is to advance a research agenda which looks at past, present and future perspectives of HRD as a profession.

Conference Location:

As home to the largest international arts festival in the world (Edinburgh Fringe Festival) and named as European Destination of the Year 2012, Edinburgh is a city of iconic landmarks, vibrant culture and exciting possibilities. As the capital city of Scotland, throughout its history it has played host to Kings, Queens, Religious Reformers, Renowned Surgeons and a host of other colourful characters. With its streets humming to the rhythm of bagpipes, visitors to Edinburgh are seduced by the city’s old-worldly charm, friendly inhabitants and fine-dining restaurants.

The Craiglockhart campus is home to Edinburgh Napier Business School and is located only 10 minutes from the city centre. The campus is an inspiring blend of old and new, combining a 19th Century Victorian Building with the best of 21st Century architecture. Formerly, a World War 1 military army hospital, it was here that famous poets Siegfried Sassoon and Wilfred Owen recuperated from their war injuries and produced some of their most famous work.
