Open Call for Two Associate Editors for Human Resource Development Review

We are pleased to announce that the editorial team of Human Resource Development Review, a Sage publication in collaboration with the Academy of Human Resource Development, is seeking nominations for two three-year Associate Editor terms.
Human Resource Development Review (HRD), published quarterly in collaboration with the Academy of Human Resource Development (AHRD) and Sage Publications, is a theory journal for scholars of human resource development and related disciplines. HRD publishes non-empirical articles that make contributions to theory development, foundations of HRD, theory building methods, and integrative reviews of the literature, as well as addressing philosophies of HRD, historical foundations, definitions of the field, conceptual organization of the field, and ethical foundations. In the 2016 Journal Citation Reports, HRDR’s impact factor was .659 in the highly competitive Management category.
The primary role of Associate Editor will be to:
· Review all manuscripts and associated peer reviews
· Draft recommendation letters with feedback for each manuscript within an agreed upon time frame
· Evaluate review quality for each reviewer
· Direct the Elwood F. Holton, III Outstanding Journal Article of the Year Award process to identify the winner
· Select the Outstanding Reviewer of the Year Award winner
· Assist authors with questions about revisions
· Provide support to the Editor as needed for ad hoc requirements (e.g., surveying the Board members or scrubbing the reviewer database)
· Participate in Editorial Board meetings
It is possible that Associate Editors may be asked to write editorials or other thought pieces in support of the journal and will be asked to promote the journal at national and international conference venues and at other events. Associate Editors will be required to participate in conference calls among the editorial team as well as attend (if possible) the Editorial Board meeting held at the Academy of Human Resource Development Conference in the Americas.
The appointment to the Associate Editor position is a 3-year term that will accompany the incoming Editor’s term, beginning July 1, 2017 and ending July 31, 2020. Associate Editors may be invited to serve a second (but not to exceed a second) three year term and are also eligible to apply for the Incoming Editor position as part of the succession plan for the journal.
Although the official start date of the position will be July 1, 2017, successful candidates should expect that training and immersion into the role will commence prior, at a time mutually agreed upon.
Qualifications for the Position
Applicants should possess a notable record of scholarly publications within the HRD community and related fields of study, have interest and previous experience in diverse content domains relevant to HRD, and have a record of service as reviewer and/or track chair, special issue editor, or editorial board member of one or more major journals. While not required, we strongly recommend that the applicant negotiate some type of institutional support (e.g., course release, stipend, graduate assistant, other) and include confirmation of such support with the application materials.
Self-nominations are encouraged and should include a letter that fully describes the candidate’s capability, experience, and commitment to serve in an Associate Editor role based upon the position requirements, as well as a full curriculum vita.
